NZ Mammals

These images were all taken around the coast of the South Island. The large group of young fur seals in image 4 were found in a wooded area, up a stream just to the north of Kaikoura on the east coast. The nursery of youngsters play without a care in the world while their parents fish at sea. At some distance from the coast, the youngsters make their way to this safe place. The Sea Lion images were taken in the Catlins on the south coast and on a secluded beach on the Otago Peninsular on the east coast. A threatened species, these Sea Lions demonstrated typical behaviours of dominance and rivalry.
